So first thing’s first. Is black even a colour you’ll ask! Black is the darkest of colours. According to Wikipedia and the Free Dictionary, it is an achromatic colour, a colour lacking hue, like white and gray. Black is the result of the absence or complete absorption of visible light.
Black may resonate differently depending on many factors such as your upbringing, education, origins etc. Black is generally associated with power (ever seen a motorcade?), fear, authority, elegance and formality, to name a few.
According to the Feng Shui ideology, a way of harmonizing your home, office, and other environments, each color represents a feng shui element. Black is associated with the water element and evokes power, mystery, and calm.1When it’s used sparingly, black has a grounding effect on your environment.
Now, I am not saying to get yourself a gallon of paint and start painting everything in black! Besides, not all black are equal either! It is important to look at the under tone. Some will have blue undertones, some green, etc.

Sue, your design skills amaze me. I cannot wait to see your future creations! I love a touch of black too. I agree that it adds class and depth to any room and doesn’t have to take away from the brightness.
I’m hoping that when you have completed the set up your website and have a little free time, that you might be able to consult on my bathroom renos. I love the E-design concept because I like to have a little touch of my own style in my home, but I desperately need your exquisite design talent to achieve a modern bathroom. And I will definitely want some BLACK!!!
